General Presentation
The generating station and the newly-constructed SM-3 reservoir situated 80 km upstream from SM-1 on the Sainte-Marguerite river, will contribute to the regulation of the river flow, as soon as it is brought into service by Hydro-Quebec
in Spring 2003. The regulation of water will noticeably enhance the economic potential of the SM-1 site for future development.
From 1997 onwards, Hydromega has anticipated this growth in hydraulic potential by studying the capacity increase to the power plant. The site is ideal for future growth in capacity developments because the major infrastructure already
exists (dam, spillway, intakes, site access…).
In fact, the river will shortly become dedicated to achieving its hydraulic resource potential. The newly-commissioned (June 2002) 22 MW generating station features two fully-regulated 11 MW vertical Kaplan units positioned on either side
of the original 8.5 MW vertical Francis turbine group.
