General Presentation

In November 2002, Hydromega was retained by both Hydro-Quebec Production and the Natural Resources Ministry of Quebec to develop a new “run-of-the-river” hydroelectric generating station located on the Magpie dam site in the Regional County (MRC) of Minganie. Aménagement Magpie hydroelectric project is situated on the river of the same name, 9 km West of Rivière-Saint-Jean village and approximately 150 km East of Seven Islands.

Aménagement Magpie will be built on the site of an old hydroelectric generating station abandoned in 1989. The original generating powerhouse will be demolished whilst the old dam will be integrated in the new 40,6 MW hydroelectric project.

All environmental authorizations were obtained in 2005. Site development started in september 2005.

The hydroelectric facilities will benefit from a 25-year electricity purchase contract with Hydro-Quebec Production, as well as from a contract of the same duration to hire hydraulic forces.
