Hydromega, a Quebec-based company, was established in 1985 with a mission to conceive, build, finance and operate independent hydroelectric facilities and a view to selling the energy produced into the Hydro-Quebec
grid.
In 1987, Hydromega became the first independent power producer to develop hydroelectric facilities in the Province of Quebec under the Province’s legislative amendments in favour of small power plants.
The expertise developed by Hydromega places the company in an enviable position within the independent hydroelectric power producers’ market.
Since its creation, Hydromega has broadened its scope to develop different types of renewable energy, such as wind power and biomass energy. In particular, the company is currently studying the wind power potential in the Gaspe peninsula,
one of the most promising wind regimes in the country.
Total production capacity of developed and under-development projects so far exceeds 100,000 kW. Hydromega is planning to undertake the development of several new projects, allowing the company to considerably increase its capacity over
the next few years.
Hydromega has also undertaken approximately twenty preliminary hydroelectric project feasibility studies in Canada and abroad. |
